Lawd, I can’t believe my son is 25 years old. Where did the time go?
Happy Birthday, Ryan! I love you… to infinity and beyond!
Is this thing on? Hellllooo out there! Y’all gotta forgive me, I know it’s been a long time…the grand baby is almost 8 months old so, I know it’s been a minute. I’ve been very busy. Ya girl is back in school continuing her eduMAcation and it’s taking up so much of my time.
Y’all know that if anything would bring me back to blogging though, it would be Mardi Gras. This is my favorite time of the year. We’re going to catch up on a lot of stuff (the Nyx Myx ball was off the chain and I went to the inaugural ball for the Krewe of Pandora.) Also, when we roll on Feb 3rd (I’m so not ready) I’m going to take a video and post it. We’re expecting a huge crowd out this year and the turn from Napoleon Ave. onto St. Charles Ave. is a sight to see. I’m gonna video it and put it up for you all to see. This is the Krewe of Nyx’s 5th year anniversary and what was once a krewe of a little over 500 women is now a krewe with… wait for it…2,232 women riding!
That’s pretty amazing.
I’m so glad that I am a member of such a wonderful krewe. I’m gonna tell you all more about that later though.
Because today is the day that the parades hit the streets, I have people looking for information so here we go,
The link to the 2016 Mardi Gras parade schedule is here
If you live out of town and want to watch the parades or if you live in the city and just can’t make it out for whatever reason, NOLA.COM has a parade cam that’s located on the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon. You can catch all of the parades (with the exception of Zulu and Endymion) on this parade cam. The commentators have gotten much better (the first few years were rough with them) and it’s a live feed so if you want to watch the parades, make sure you check out what time the parade starts. The parade cam is not too far from where the parades line up.
You can find the link to the parade cam here.
I’m gonna wave at all of my fabulous readers who will catch the Krewe of Nyx on the parade cam. It has become a tradition for me now.
This year I’m on float 28, sidewalk side (that’s passenger side for those who don’t know Mardi Gras lingo.) If you come out on the route to support us,just yell BayouCreole and I’ll have a beautifully decorated purse for you!
Grandstand tickets are still for sale. If you want to purchase grandstand tickets, you can find the link here.
I’m actually trying something new this year. This will be my first year catching Endymion in the grandstands. I usually catch them under the bridge at Canal and Claiborne. I thought I’d switch it up this year. This is Endymion’s 50th year anniversary! Wow…Can’t wait to see what they put on the streets this year.
The St. Augustine Marching 100 will be in the following parades
And I think that’s about it. If I think of anything, I’ll come back and put a mini post up, but I think I’ve covered the basics. I know a lot of folks (including me) love Randazzo’s king cakes. They(Manny Randazzo’s in Metarie) are usually closed on Sundays, but they will be open the Sunday before Lundi Gras (think the day Bacchus rolls.) So if you want to get a king cake before Lundi Gras, you can go there Sunday.
The link to Randazzo’s is here.
Well loves, I think that’s it for now. I gotta get outta here. I’m trying to catch the parades tonight.
Will be back soon…MUAH!
Today is a feel good day y’all!
Why is that you say?
Well, a few reasons. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here but, I quit the crazy weekend gig a few weeks ago. I had to get out of that place.
I just couldn’t take working in that place any longer. I like to keep a weekend gig but, that one had to go. It was beginning to change how I feel about nursing.
And I’m already getting tired of the profession as it is. The money’s great but, I want to do more.
So, I’m feeling pretty good that I let some dead weight go.
Also, my bird of paradise is blooming like craaazzyy! I mean if she were a peacock…she’d be struttin!
My neighbor knocked on the door and asked me how I get her to bloom like that.
The secret’s in the water!
Really…it’s the water. All I do is water her everyday for a minute and leave her alone…yes, I’ve declared it to be a female.
Every time I go to my front door, there she is,
looking all pretty.
Makes me happy.
What else is making me grin?
Well, we’re officially in countdown mode to Mardi Gras!
Five months left before we roll down the streets of NOLA and I can’t wait! I went to my first official Krewe of Nyx meeting last week. We talked about the throws ( which will be fabulous so, don’t stay home Wednesday, February 26, 2014). If you do, you’ll be mad because, we plan to throw like crazy!
And don’t forget, in addition to the fabulous throws, we also have our coveted decorated purses that will be flying from the floats as well. Here’s a lil peek at three of mine…just to get ya mind right so you’ll know what you could be catching…or missing.
Not too shabby to say this is my first year decorating purses. I had no idea I held so much creativity in this lil ole’ body.
The krewe is only in its third year and already has a riding membership of well over 1,000 members. I hear the waiting list is huge as well. This is one parade you don’t wanna miss…trust me on that.
Football season is here…
(Tazzee just rolled her eyes…lol)
I nearly had a heart attack when the Saints played Tampa.
Hopefully, I won’t need a defibrillator this weekend.
Fall festivals are rolling…yay!
Next weekend, I’ll be attending the Hamp Fest featuring the O’Jays! The Hamp Fest will be held at St. Augustine High School.
I put the link up for any Purple Knights wanting to buy tickets. Just click on Hamp Fest.
Y’all know we’re a Purple Knight family…gotta support the school.
I love festivals.
The weather is a lil better with the fall festivals so, I try to make as many as I can.
In the fall, it’s only hot…not hot as hell.
I can deal with that.
My dad is doing better.
Been more like his old self…which is great.
I can handle “old self” dad.
I don’t have anything lined up for this weekend.
I do have to meet some of my Nyx Sisters and help them with some decorating stuff. I’m sure that’s gonna be a lot of fun!
But other than that,
I’m gonna just the enjoy the weekend.
Maybe go sit by the lake, or the bayou,
or the river,
I”m a Cancer so, yeah, water is my thing.
And have a few drinks with my best buddy, NavySeal.
Sounds like a winner to me.
Just taking it easy.
Y’all have a great weekend!
It seems that, I have more than a few people keeping me on my toes with this blog of mine. A lot of folks who read my blog are also facebook friends and one of my “purple knight family members” got on my case because, I never put up the studio copies of my son so he and the rest of the purple knight nation could see them.
So, to all my purple knight brothers….I’m sorry!
Ok…my bad…I forgot!
Here ya go…jeez.
Father and son….the legacy continues.
I think I better clean off my scanner screen. LOL. Thanks for keeping my on my toes fellas…I thought I had put them up already. See ya at the game.
I love, love, love this marching band!! Ok, I am biased for personal reasons. This marching band was the first band to intergrate Mardi Gras back in the 60’s, they are locally and nationally renowned and really are great. They have played for various Presidents, The Pope, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and many other historic events. If anyone has ever gone to a Mardi Gras parade, especially the big ones such as Rex, Endymion, Bacchus and Zulu..trust me, you have seen this band.
