It’s Carnival Time!

Is this thing on? Hellllooo out there! Y’all gotta forgive me, I know it’s been a long time…the grand baby is almost 8 months old so, I know it’s been a minute. I’ve been very busy.  Ya girl is back in school continuing her eduMAcation and it’s taking up so much of my time.

Y’all know that if anything would bring me back to blogging though, it would be Mardi Gras. This is my favorite time of the year. We’re going to catch up on a lot of stuff (the Nyx Myx ball was off the chain and I went to the inaugural ball for the Krewe of Pandora.)  Also, when we roll on Feb 3rd (I’m so not ready) I’m going to take a video and post it. We’re expecting a huge crowd out this year and the turn from Napoleon Ave. onto St. Charles Ave. is a sight to see. I’m gonna video it and put it up for you all to see. This is the Krewe of Nyx’s 5th year anniversary and what was once a krewe of a little over 500 women is now a krewe with… wait for it…2,232 women riding!

That’s pretty amazing.

I’m so glad that I am a member of such a wonderful krewe. I’m gonna tell you all more about that later though.

Because today is the day that the parades hit the streets, I have people looking for information so here we go,

The link to the 2016 Mardi Gras parade schedule is here

If you live out of town and want to watch the parades or if you live in the city and just can’t make it out for whatever reason, NOLA.COM has a parade cam that’s located on the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon. You can catch all of the parades (with the exception of Zulu and Endymion) on this parade cam. The commentators have gotten much better (the first few years were rough with them) and it’s a live feed  so if you want to watch the parades, make sure you check out what time the parade starts. The parade cam is not too far from where the parades line up.

You can find the link to the parade cam here.

I’m gonna wave at all of my fabulous readers who will catch the Krewe of Nyx on the parade cam. It has become a tradition for me now.

This year I’m on float 28, sidewalk side (that’s passenger side for those who don’t know Mardi Gras lingo.) If you come out on the route to support us,just yell  BayouCreole and I’ll  have a beautifully decorated purse for you!

Grandstand tickets are still for sale. If you want to purchase grandstand tickets, you can find the link here.

I’m actually trying something new this year. This will be my first year catching Endymion in the grandstands. I usually catch them under the bridge at Canal and Claiborne.  I thought I’d switch it up this year. This is Endymion’s 50th year anniversary! Wow…Can’t wait to see what they put on the streets this year.

The St. Augustine Marching 100 will be in the following parades

st. aug schedule

And I think that’s about it. If I think of anything, I’ll come back and put a mini post up, but I think I’ve covered the basics. I know a lot of folks (including me) love Randazzo’s king cakes. They(Manny Randazzo’s in Metarie) are usually closed on Sundays, but they will be open the Sunday before Lundi Gras (think the day Bacchus rolls.) So if you want to get a king cake before Lundi Gras, you can go there Sunday.

The link to Randazzo’s is here.

Well loves, I think that’s it for now. I gotta get outta here. I’m trying to catch the parades tonight.

Will be back soon…MUAH!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!

It’s cold as heck out there! I’m home where it’s warm and toasty. This is the 2nd year that I opted not to get grandstand seats and it’s been cold as the dickens out there both years.

I’m just beginning to feel like my ole’ self since my ride….which was totally amazing!!

The Krewe of Nyx took over the city on Wednesday, February 11th with over 1,500 women riding!

nyx parade night
It was an absolutely gorgeous night. No rain and it wasn’t cold at all. I only needed 2 shirts under my costume and I was quite comfortable.

And we weren’t cramped on the floats.

I love that we aren’t  forced to be packed like sardines.  I looked at a few other krewes and they were packed kinda tight. I don’t see how they had room to move on some of the floats I’ve seen.

My float mate and I were in this little section by ourselves and it was heavenly!

I wanted to get a video of my ride but, they has so many people out there. I was a throwing fool!I didn’t even have time to get a bite of a sandwich.

My kids (well, they’re young adults now)Yellow Jacket and Purple Knight always come out on the route to support me and the krewe. Seeing them and Navy Seal out there is the highlight of my ride.

my heartbeats

And they always managed to get a shot of me in action on the float,

me on float (2)

I want to say thank you to all the readers who came out and supported the krewe. It really means a lot to me.

But as much as I loved my ride, I really want to give some attention to a new krewe that hit the streets of New Orleans this year. The first predominantly African-American all-female krewe,

the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale (MKFF).

Actually, two predominately African-American all-female krewes hit the streets this year.

The other krewe is the Krewe of Athena,Inc. but they ride in Metairie. I’m really happy to finally see black women riding in such heavy numbers. It’s been long overdue.

Congratulations to MKFF and the Krewe of Athena!

You are now a part of Mardi Gras history.

Here are a few pictures of MKFF.

They’re gonna have to have a meeting with their members about keeping those masks on their faces though. It’s a violation to ride unmasked and I saw a few women riding without their masks on.

Well, that’s all I have for now. I’m gonna watch all the parades on the internet so, I have to go!

This is the last day of the giveaway! I’m gonna have Navy Seal pull the winner this evening and I’ll post the winner tomorrow.

Y’all be safe out there!

Have a great Mardi Gras!

It Was An AMAZING Night!

I’m gonna tell you all about it tomorrow.  The floats are getting ready to come out of their dens and I have to get uptown before I can’t get past them.

Just another wonderful hazard of living in the city….float traffic.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world though.

Here are a few pics from yesterday…

All Because It’s Carnival Time!

Well, I’ve made it back! I’ve been so busy lately, I’ve hardly have time to sleep.

I wasn’t going to leave my readers hanging around carnival time though.

No way would I do that!

Because y’all know good and well, I’m going to those parades. Yep, I’ll be out there in full force…weather permitting of course.

I’m not hanging out in the cold and rain.

But so far, the weather has been BEAUTIFUL! Lets just hope it stays that way.

So much as been going on.  The first predominately African-American female krewe hit the streets last Sunday.

The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale.

I’m gonna put that on the back burner for a minute because I have folks looking for the 2015  Mardi Gras Parade Schedule so here it is,

And it you can’t make it to the parades, the parade cams will be broadcasting live so, you can still see me when I roll with the fantastic Mystic Krewe of Nyx! The link to NOLA.COM parade cam is here.

The audio and video is really great this year on the NOLA.com parade cam(when it isn’t going out on them) so I’m gonna give them shout out and if you can’t make it to the parades, tune in to those guys.

Also, for my Purple Knight family and followers, the St. Augustine Marching 100 will be in the following parades,

Cleopatra,Alla,Nyx,Muses,Hermes,Endymion,Mid-City,Bacchus,Orpheus and Rex.

Today is a very busy day for me because,

THE MYSTIC KREWE OF NYX ROLLS TONIGHT!!

I’m rushing and getting all of my last-minute stuff together. It’s pretty hectic.  My purses are ready to go though so that’s a good thing.

If you’re going to the parades tonight, I’ll be on Float 20, sidewalk side, bottom. Just yell Bayoucreole and I’ll hand you a purse! They are my babies…it’s gonna be hard to part with them, but I’ll have more babies next year. Here are a few of my favorites.

I posted a pic of these on another post but, just in case folks didn’t see them. Here ya go!

I am really excited about my second ride with the krewe. We’re supposed to have a wonderful night. I’m expecting a ton of people out there…I hope I have enough throws.

The Krewe of Muses rides tomorrow. I’ll be out there cheering my friends on and taking pictures for you all to see. If I can get a few videos to put up, I will.

In fact, I’ll take a lil 30 second video of me on the float riding down St. Charles Ave. so you can see what it’s like up there.

It’s gonna be a long day so, I better get moving.

BUT!!

If you made it this far, leave a comment or two because,

IT’S GIVEAWAY TIME!!

See how I threw that in there?

I wanted to do a king cake giveaway but, I decided against that one because they use UPS and the person has to be home when they deliver it or UPS will probably leave it at the door. I don’t want them leaving folks king cake at the door all willy-nilly.

So, I’m going to do a $50 gift card one. It’s just my way of saying thank you for sticking with me…even when I take a break for a few months.

I really appreciate it.

All you have to do is check for my blog posts, leave a comment and I’ll put your name in the hat!On Feb.17th (mardi gras day), I will have Navy Seal pull the winner.

I’ll announce the winner on Ash Wednesday.

Tomorrow, I’ll  talk about my ride and I’ll post a few videos of St. Aug and Landry-Walker for my out- of state- folks who are feeling homesick right about now.

Then we can catch up on what’s been going on with the Bayoucreole Chick!

HAPPY MARDI GRAS Y’ALL!!

The Lucky 30 and Her Friends

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!   Hail Nyx! We’re rolling tonight at 7!

I’m excited, tired, sad and happy all at the same time. Happy I’m riding, sad that I have to now part with my babies.

What babies you ask?

Why the decorated purses I’ve created throughout the year. It’s our signature throw and if you catch one, you indeed have a prized possession. The purses take many “people hours” to create and a lot of love and attention go into making them. Most of my purses were purchased from thrift stores. I’d often find the most torn and tattered ones and give them new life. We’re only allowed to bring 30 on the float, but we can create more than 30 and give them out to family and friends.

It’s been rainy and it’s supposed to be cold tonight. Hopefully, the rain will be finished by the time we roll…otherwise you all will see a soggy Bayou Creole on the webcam.

I’ll post about my day (which I’m sure will be one of the most amazing days of my life) sometime tomorrow…hopefully.

I gotta go…busy…busy…busy.

Here are some of my creations that I’ll  either throw tonight or have given to friends.  Some are simple, some are not. All have a part of me in them.

I hope you enjoy!

And So It Begins!

The first big weekend of Mardi Gras is officially underway! I’m super hyped about it this year because,

I ride in 4 days!!

I’ve been really busy finalizing a lot of things for my inaugural ride. I do have my float position though!

Float 16, sidewalk side (that’s passenger side for non NOLA folks),bottom level, 5th person.

Make sure you get my attention so I can hook you up . My blog peeps are my most favorite folks, so I have something special for you all in addition to getting one of our beautifully hand decorated purses. It’s gonna be one awesome night. The ladies in the krewe are all excited about riding and plan to throw like crazy!

I’ll put a post up about my inaugural ride on Thursday (hopefully) with pictures. That way you all will have an idea of what goes on  inside of carnival krewes and what it’s like being on a float. I may even do a 60 sec video and post it. On Tuesday, I will post photos of all the decorated purse that I plan to throw and the ones that I made to go to some friends.

Hopefully, they’ll receive them before I post…lol

Now, on to other Mardi Gras info,

The first big weekend has already begun with the Krewes Oshun and Cleopatra rolling along the uptown route. I wasn’t able to attend. In fact, I’m going to miss being out there for all the parades this weekend. I plan to catch them on  various webcams.

The link for NOLA.com parade cam is here.  This webcam is located at St. Charles Ave. and Napoleon. This is near the beginning of the route and a good one if you are catching the parades near their scheduled time to roll.

If you go into the link now, you should see whatever is happening at the intersection of St. Charles and Napoleon.

*The Krewe of Nyx will be streamed on all webcams. NOLA.com’s webcam is on the sidewalk side so, if you want to try to catch  a view of ole’ Bayou Creole on the float, this is the webcam to watch. If I don’t get too caught up in the moment, I’m going  to wave at the camera!

WWLTV will also stream live. Their camera is located at Gallier Hall. You can find the link here. It will take a while for the parade to get to Gallier Hall. I think Gallier Hall is a little more than half of the parade route.

Here’s the 2014 Mardi Gras Schedule,

For all of my Purple Knights, St. Aug will be marching in the following parades,

Pontchartrain,Alla,NYX,Muses,Hermes,Endymion,Mid City,Bacchus,Orpheus and Zulu.
*They were also in Cleopatra but that parade has already rolled.

Here’s a clip of Aug in Cleopatra under the bridge.

I’m on a bandhead forum with all the band directors and they have their bands ready to bring the heat this year!
It’s gonna be an amazing season. We just need the weather to coöperate. I said that  it wouldn’t rain the year I got to ride with Nyx and none is expected so far.

I  just hope it stays that way.

That’s all I have for now. I’ll be posting video clips of parades as I go to them. I won’t be going out on Mardi Gras day though. We’ve decided to stay home this year. If the weather’s really nice, I’ll go out and see the Indians, but I plan to catch everything on the television and hibernate on the couch this year.

Let the good times roll!

I’m ready to get it in!

Have a great weekend y’all!

Nyx Myx Masquerade Ball 2014

The Third Annual Krewe of Nyx Masquerade Ball was held Saturday at the Hilton Rivergate in the grand ballroom.

It was spectacular!

Last year,I attended as a sister-in-waiting.

This year I attended as a full-fledged member!

Whoo-Hoo!

It’s a formal affair with tux, full-length gown and masks required.

To keep the blog post short, I’m going to let the pictures tell most of the story.

The event began at 7 pm. Navy Seal and I got there around 6:45 because I knew they’d have a lot of people checking in to enter the ballroom.

And man, did they ever!  The krewe is now 1, 224 women strong and they were ready to party!

Waiting to check in.
