Semi-wordless Wednesday

My heartbeats.  He’s crazy about his sister and his niece and they adore him.

I live for moments like this.

Father’s Day At Messina’s

For father’s day, I took Navy Seal to a new spot for brunch.  To be honest, I’m kinda mad that I slept on this place for so long because it’s not that far from where I live.

Messina’s Runway  Cafe is located at the Lakefront Airport in New Orleans East.

Man, that brunch was an experience! I tried everything on the menu and every darn dish was great! Add bottomless mimosas to the mix and I was tipsy as hell happy as a tick on a dog.

We had a view of the tarmac where we were sitting. It was cool watching planes land, but I just kept thinking…what if one of these suckers can’t stop? Then I started thinking about how fast I would be able to run to get out of the way.

Those mimosas must have really been getting the best of me.

I tried everything on the menu. I didn’t get pics of it all because I was too busy grubbin’. The truffle mac and cheese was the winner for me though. I just wanted to take the entire pan home with me.

The wait staff was excellent. Everyone was so happy and helpful…I was really impressed with this place.

When I got home, I went on Yelp to post a review and it seems that I am not the only person impressed. They have a few bad reviews, but 90% of the reviews are pretty much like mine.

I’m telling ya, if anyone comes to the city and wants to venture out some, head over to the Lakefront Airport and grab a meal. The only downside is that they close early so be sure to check their hours before heading out.

Navy Seal and I have agreed to make it a tradition to have either Mother’s Day or Father’s Day brunch there.

Can’t wait to do it again next year!

Happy 2nd Birthday Bayou Grandbaby!

Time is moving too fast. I can’t believe that she’s 2 years old already. Being a grandmother is the best thing ever.

She is the light of my life.

This year, her party was at Joe Brown Park in New Orleans East.We had a rainy day, but to be honest, I preferred the rain over that “hotter than Hades” summer heat.

The birthday girl pre-party time!

The Princess right before her guests arrived.

And this is what a successful ending to a baby party looks like! A too pooped to pop baby! With Purple Knight (uncle), Yellow Jacket (mom), BayouCreole(MiMi) holding the knocked out Princess, Maw-Maw Jan.  Paw-Paw Romi and Paw-Paw Navy Seal in the back. We are family!

Mardi Gras-The Ride.

Whew, I made it through another one. I must really be getting old because I don’t have the carnival season stamina that I used to have.

Maybe I was just too tired with school, work, decorating purses and coconuts and everything else.

I had a fabulous season though and my ride this year was EPIC!

I thought we had a large crowd last year (and we did), but this year it was HUUUGGEE!  I had the most fun ever!

Most people who ride in carnival krewes say that once you ride on a float, you never want to get back on the ground. I never felt that way. I love being on the ground as much as being up on the float. I love to flex my “bead-catching muscles” and see how many throws I can get my hands on. This year was the first time that I actually loved being on the float, more than I loved being on the ground.

Everything about that day was fabulous…from the pre-party to the end of the ride.  The weather was gorgeous! I think it was about 65 degrees when we hit the street. And the crowd was out in full force.

I really am proud that the krewe is doing so well.

Looking forward to many more years of riding with such a great group of women.

February 7,2018… we get to do it again!

Being a grandmother is everything people said it would be. I can’t spoil my grandbaby enough. I get to do all the loving without all the responsibility.  It is thee best part of the second chapter of my life.

Look at that beautiful face! Lawd, my pockets are gonna stay empty fooling around with her.

This summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet up with one of my most favorite bloggers (even though he gave up the ghost and no longer blogs) Reggie of Reggie’s Rantings.

Reg, NavySeal and moi.

This picture was actually our second time meeting. Reg is such an awesome guy. I’m glad that we were able to finally meet and that I can call him a friend. Blogging has introduced me to some pretty amazing people.

NavySeal and I are both back in school. I feel old walking across  the campus. Not because I’m surrounded by young folks, but because you have to park your car so darn far away from the buildings that I’m tired before I get there.  They need to have geriatric parking on campus.

I am so ready for this cool weather. My electric bill took a huge hit this summer. Summers in the deep south are murder. I don’t think I paid less than $400 a month the entire summer. My electric bill needed a break.

My neighbor’s gardener cut the roots to my morning glories and killed my entire living fence. Rat bastids. It was so pretty…butterflies would visit every morning. Now, I have to start her all over again.

My living fence that is now dead. SIGH.

My  92-year-old aunt is in hospice care. My dad had 9 siblings and only my aunt and my dad are left. It saddens me to think that when he crosses over, my family will have lost an entire generation and we will become the elders of the family. I can’t wrap my head around that.

In addition to decorating purses, I also have to decorate coconuts this year. My brother and a few of his friends are riding in Zulu so I have a few hundred (yes, a few hundred…like 900) coconuts to do. This is my first time decorating coconuts.

A tribute to Prince coconut! 🙂

This year is almost over and I feel as if I’ve gotten nothing accomplished.  I’m so ready for 2017.

I’m still a member of the Krewe of Nyx. I think Mardi Gras 2017 will be my last year as a member though. NavySeal and I want to ride in a Krewe together.  We’re looking at the Krewe of Orpheus which  rolls on Lundi Gras. It will be a totally new experience for me. And I get to ride with NavySeal…which is the best part of all.

Why is 10 lbs so hard to lose? I didn’t realize how much I love to eat til I decided to lose 10 pounds. The struggle is real.

What’s going on with you today?

Monday Madness…Crutches?!

crutches

Yeah, I’m walking around on crutches right now…sigh. This is definitely old people problems because I don’t think I would have had to get crutches if my ligaments were in their younger days.

How’d it happen? Cleaning up.Standing on one leg while on a chair. When I brought the leg down I missed the chair and jarred it on a cement petition. I actually felt the pain shoot up my leg. So now I’m out-of-commission…sorta. I’m supposed to be on bed rest, but there was no way I was missing Wicked on Tour. I managed to hobble around the theatre on one crutch…which I actually prefer. I’m gonna end up with a leg cast fooling around with both crutches. And I’m getting really creating when it comes to hiding the splint. Can’t wait to be off of these things though.

Grandbaby Creole(GBC) …I just blog named her 🙂 decided to show out for her birthday and took her first steps in front of everyone. It was awesome!

My 86-year-old dad was in his glory watching his great-granddaughter walk.

My kids just about grew up on this blog. Yellow Jacket was 13 when I began blogging and she’ll be 22 next month. I’m still trying to figure out where the time went.

Yellow Jacket 2008

I guess I’ll have some time to catch up on all of my blogging now…since I’m laid up for a minute. That’s a good thing because I miss blogging. Facebook saps all of the creative energy out of me because it’s so quick. With Facebook,Instagram and Twitter around, blogging has become the dinosaur of social media. I still like it though because it’s my space to get whatever I want to out of my head without having to deal with all of those “judgy-wudgies” on those other sites.

And I miss you guys. I don’t know if I’ll ever stop…I may slow up a bit, but I’m gonna hang around as long as possible. Besides, the grandbaby will give me all sorts of new  stuff to blog about.

So, let’s catch up! I have so much to cover!
